Purpose
The Nebraska Range Shortcourse is designed to provide individuals who have an interest in range management, natural resources, or agriculture an opportunity to increase their knowledge in the field of range management. It will provide underlying principles of range management for efficient, sustainable use of range land for multiple purposes including livestock grazing and wildlife habitat.

Eligibility
Adults who are interested in improving their understanding of range management and have a general background in range or plant sciences (either through practical experience or formal education) will be eligible to apply for the shortcourse. The shortcourse will be limited to the first 45 applicants who have registered for the class before May 16, 2008. Applicants who are not successful in obtaining a place in the shortcourse will have their registration fee refunded in full and will be considered alternates for the shortcourse. They will be given the first opportunity to apply for future range shortcourses.
College Credit
The shortcourse can be taken for credit or for non-credit. Individuals who wish to take the class for UNL college credit can sign up for 2 hours of Independent Study in Agronomy 496 (undergraduate) or 896 (graduate) for the second summer term in 2008. Use the special section set up for the Range Shortcourse. Contact Walt Schacht for the call numbers. Anyone not enrolled in UNL needs to go through the admissions process. Students wishing credit through Chadron State College should register for 2 hours of Agriculture 420 (undergraduate) or Agriculture 520 (graduate). Those students registering for Chadron State credit should check with Chuck Butterfield at Chadron State College (308) 432-6274. Before registering for college credit, you must insure that you have a place in the course by returning the attached registration form with the registration fee of $200. All credit and non-credit students attending the shortcourse will be required to take quizzes and/or exams during the week as well as the final exam on Friday. Students taking the course for graduate level credit will be required to complete additional work. This will involve the development and completion of a suitable range project agreeable with instructors.
CEU Credit
16 CEU credits are available for the SRM “Certified Professional in Rangeland Management” program. You can register for CEU credits during the shortcourse at Chadron.

Registration
Registration forms and the shortcourse registration fee must be received no later than May 15, 2006. The registration fee of $200 includes all materials that will be used for the shortcourse (notebook and other reference material), transportation for field trips and some instructor expenses.
Accommodations and Meals
Arrangements have been made for participants to obtain
housing at the Chadron State College dormitories, and meals can be taken at the Student Center. Indicate your housing preference on the registration form. A packet of sheets, pillow, pillowcase, blanket, towel and washcloth will be provided for the week. Towels are light, so if you want a heavy towel, please bring your own. If you stay at the dorm, purchase of meals at the Student Center is encouraged. This will be the most convenient and fits our schedule well. You can pay at the door for the meals you take. Classes will be held on the Campus of Chadron State College in room 160 of the Burkhiser Building.
