Description: This course provides an overview of types of agricultural enterprises and basic accounting principles as they relate to agricultural businesses. Introductory models for a startup business are discussed. Topics include ideation, customer segments, value proposition, minimal viable product, and market fit. Requires completion of a shadowing project and subsequent marketing plan specific to agricultural enterprises based on a business idea.

Prerequisites: Admission to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Course Requirements & Materials:

  • Technical Requirements: Access to high-speed Internet and email with up-to-date browsers and the ability to view videos (recommended browsers are Firefox, Chrome, and Safari)
  • Textbooks: No textbooks required. Pricing for the Green Industry by Frank Ross, Human Resource Management by the American Nursery & Landscape Association, and Specialty Shop Retailing by Carol Schroeder are recommended, but not required. All course materials are online in Canvas.
