Description: This course enables students to develop ideas for new business ventures and study related finances. Overview of financial issues for agribusiness start-ups. Topics include start-up funding, sources of cash, depreciation, payroll, and amortization of loans. Exercises in QuickBooks software are emphasized. Business funding specific to new enterprises. Case studies on financial practices for start-up firms. At the conclusion of the course, students will have the ability to read financial statements and will have prepared financial plans for their proposed businesses.
Prerequisites: Admission to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Students must show interest in finance for agriculture and entrepreneurs.
Course Requirements & Materials:
- Technical Requirements: Access to high-speed Internet and email with up-to-date browsers and the ability to view videos (recommended browsers are Firefox, Chrome, and Safari)
- Textbooks: Entrepreneurial Financial Management, 3rd Edition by Cornwall, Vang, and Hartman is required. All course materials are online in Canvas.
