Austin Kamm's Internship Experience

About Me

Austin Kamm is a sophomore at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln majoring in agronomy and minoring in Engler agribusiness entrepreneurship. In the summer of 2025, he interned with Phytech as a technician serving in Wisner, Nebraska and beyond.

Internship Responsibilities

Over the course of his internship, Kamm installed and maintained Phytech locations in fields across Nebraska and in parts of Iowa and Kansas. Each location had a soil moisture probe and three stem diameter sensors that monitored when the crops needed to be watered to avoid under-watering or over-watering on irrigated fields.

Learning Opportunities

Kamm learned that new agricultural technology can significantly boost a producer's overall efficiency, and he says farmers should start taking advantage of the new technologies because they will be the key to sustainable agriculture in the future.

Future Career Goals

Upon graduation, Kamm plans to return home to his family's ranching operation in Wisner, Nebraska to continue caring for their cow and calf herd and potentially start farming row crops. Eventually, he would like to work in agronomy professionally, specifically in a role where he could fly aerial application planes.
