The Excellence in Teaching Award is presented to a faculty member in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and contributions to the department’s teaching mission.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Nominee must have been a faculty member in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture and must have been actively engaged in teaching.
- Faculty members who have previously received an outstanding service award in any category from the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture are not eligible for another award for the following three years.
- Faculty cannot receive the same award more than once in the same category.
Nomination Guideline:
- Nominator is not required to be faculty members of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture. Self-nomination is acceptable.
- Members of the Awards Committee are not eligible to nominate candidates.
- Nominations must be submitted through an online form.
Nomination Submission Guideline (maximum of 1,500 words to be submitted online by the nominator):
- Nominee information: Name, address, phone number, and email address.

- Overview of the nominee’s teaching program including goals, objectives, accomplishments, and impacts.
- Brief description of teaching publications (journal articles, book chapters, etc.), examples of teaching communications (videos, radio interviews, popular press contributions, etc.).
- Brief description of nominee’s use of technological literacy to enhance student learning outcomes and engagement. Curriculum and other committee involvement and leadership roles.
- Record of awards and honors received, information regarding student mentoring activities. Additional pertinent details support the nominee’s eligibility for the Excellence in Teaching Award.
