About Me
Nate Agosta is a junior majoring in plant and landscape systems with the turfgrass science and management option and minoring in business and entrepreneurship. In the summer of 2025, he interned with Lost Rail Golf Club in Gretna, Nebraska.
Internship Responsibilities
Over the course of his turfgrass management internship, Agosta shadowed the Lost Rail superintendent, Ahren Wonderlich, and worked with the agronomy team, gaining both technical turfgrass science skills as well as an understanding of a golf course superintendent's responsibilities.
Learning Opportunities
Agosta said he gained a ton of hands-on learning experience through his internship. He learned a lot about irrigation and construction management, as well as technical skills like how to operate a Toro Turf Sprayer with new GPS technology and the chemical mixing process. His biggest takeaway, though, was learning how to create a strong work culture. Agosta said Ahren and the management team have successfully created a fun and welcoming environment while maintaining efficiency, which is especially important because he attests the golf course maintenance industry can have a toll on workers, particularly seasonal ones. Agosta noticed that this environment promotes efficiency and can be created through constructive feedback, preparation, organization and by hosting events.
Future Career Goals
Agosta's career goal is to become a golf course superintendent, a position he plans to achieve by first becoming an assistant superintendent so he can continue to learn and prepare himself for the position until an opportunity for advancement presents itself.
