The team, which is made up of 14 students from the School of Natural Resources and the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, earned first place in the fall Region 5 Soils competition is Manhattan, Kansas. Teammates Samantha Teten, Kolby Grint, and Bryan Petersen also earned individual awards on the competition.

In California, the group will compete against the medal finishers from the seven regional competitions. They have three days to practice in local soil pits before two days of individual and team competition.
