Arshdeep Singh, University of Nebraska–Lincoln agronomy and horticulture doctoral candidate, was selected as a 2023 Agricultural & Environmental Letters Outstanding Reviewer.

Agricultural & Environmental Letters is a joint publication of the American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America. It is an open access journal that publishes articles spanning the entire range of the agricultural and environmental sciences and describes cross-disciplinary research or addressing emerging scientific, policy and economic issues.

Singh received his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and his Master of Science degree in natural resources from Auburn University, Alabama.

During his doctoral degree, Singh was provided student support by the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute at the University of Nebraska.

Singh’s research, teaching and extension is focused on balancing crop production and sustainability goals in agriculture. He conducts integrated assessments of agroecosystem performance to optimize resource use efficiencies and crop yields while mitigating adverse environmental impacts. Of particularly interest to Singh is in identifying cropping systems and management practices that increase nitrogen and water use efficiencies while reducing carbon footprint. His projects are conducted in the United States and internationally through various collaborations.

Singh serves as the regional editor for the Southern/Central Great Plains region of Crops & Soils magazine, issued by the ASA. He was awarded the Future Leader in the Science award and served on various ASA committees, including the Fellows Committee, Carl Sprengel Agronomic Research Award Committee and the Werner L. Nelson Award Diagnosis of Yield-Limiting Factors Committee. He was selected as an Encompass Scholar by the ASA, which Bayer sponsored.

Singh is a member and former chair of the soil sensor technical working group of the National Ecological Observatory Network. He is the Local Science Partner and member of the Science Policy Group for the American Geophysical Union.

While at Nebraska, Singh also served as a board member for the University Conduct Board, Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards.

Singh’s advisors are agronomy and horticulture assistant professor Javed Iqbal and Nebraska Water Center research professor Daniel Snow.

After completing his doctoral degree Singh plans to continue working in close collaboration with academia, industry, producers and the community in general to continue studying  ways to improve agricultural systems.
