The public is invited to explore the University of Nebraska–Lincoln student hydroponic prototype and demonstration systems from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 21 in the Plant Science Teaching Greenhouse, 3855 Fair Street.
See the diversity of approaches to growing plants, including fresh greens, fruits and ornamental plants. Students will demonstrate systems including deep water, thin film, Bato bucket, raft, ebb and flow, tower, and gutter culture. The public is encouraged to listen and discuss as students share their innovative approaches and provide background on system designs.
Stacy Adams, professor of practice in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, has taught Plant and Landscape Systems 307 Hydroponics for Growing Populations for four years in CASNR.
“I know you have been enjoying the fruits of their labor from the free distribution carts or by snacking on some product at the northwest entrance of Plant Sciences Hall,” Adams said. “Please stop in to show your support of their efforts!”
The first 20 visitors who participate will receive a free kalanchoe plant.
This event is open to the public to peruse the different systems. Guests may enter through the north door with the new sidewalk entrance to the Plant Science Teaching Greenhouse, across from the Animal Science Complex. Meter parking is available in the parking lot east of the greenhouse, across N. 39th Street.
