Description: This course introduces students to turf diseases, including current and emerging diseases. Emphasis is on diseases prevalent in the Great Plains area of the United States. Concepts will apply to turf diseases occurring in other parts of the world. Topics include pathogens, epidemiology, disease cycles, plant health management strategies, and the control of diseases specific to turfgrass.

Prerequisites: Admission to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Successful completion of BIOS/PLPT 369 or one semester of an equivalent introductory-level plant pathology course.

Registration: This course is offered as part of the Great Plains AG*IDEA consortium.

  • Technical Requirements: Access to high-speed Internet and email with up-to-date browsers and the ability to view videos (recommended browsers are Firefox, Chrome, and Safari); must also be able to use Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat
  • Textbooks: No textbooks required. Compendium of Turfgrass Diseases, Third Edition, by R.W. Smiley, P.H. Dernoeden & B.B Clarke is recommended and can be purchased from APS Press. All course materials are online in Canvas.
