Diagnostics & Cost-Effective Solutions for Nitrogen Management

Nitrogen and Water Dashboard

Project Sense field work
  • Nitrogen fertilizer is necessary for increased crop yields and farmer profitability.
  • It is possible to increase nitrogen-use efficiency (NUE) without yield and/or profit losses
  • Nebraska corn growers have improved nitrogen-use efficiency over the last 50 years, but there is still room for improvement to reduce environmental concerns
  • No tool exists to help growers evaluate NUE in corn production and provide cost-effective solutions to make improvements

Project Summary

Our goal is to provide Nebraska corn growers with actionable information to improve their NUE and profitability. To do this, we have developed a digital nitrogen dashboard to diagnose and improve current NUE leveraging on NRD grower-reported data and Nebraska On-Farm Research Network trial data collected over the past 30 years.
