Curry to share experience as pepper breeder, producer at club meeting

Tuesday, March 23, 2021

The Horticulture Club invites all faculty, staff and students to join them this Wednesday, March 24, at 5:30 p.m. as they host a special guest speaker at their next meeting.

Via Zoom, the club will be hosting Ed Curry of Curry Seed & Chile Company who will be sharing his experience in pepper production and pepper genetics.

In the 1980s, Curry developed a pepper that was mild in heat. This pepper variety, known as Arizona 20, is now the standard of the green and red chili peppers in the United States. In fact, 80 to 90% of the chiles grown commercially in the nation can be traced back to Curry’s farm in Arizona. The farm is also vertically integrated which means the company produces the product from beginning to end.

“It will be an interesting and fun meeting so we would like to invite our community to join us,” club president Sarah Wulf said.

Join the meeting.
