Foltz named candidate for Senior CLASS Award list

Monday, October 31, 2016

Sam Foltz was recently announced as an honorary member of the 2016 Senior CLASS Award list in collegiate football.

Foltz, who died in a car accident this July, is the first-ever honorary nominee. He was nominated for his notable achievements in the areas of community, classroom, character and competition, along with 30 other FBS candidates from around the nation.

A standout on the field as well as in the classroom and community, Foltz was the 2015 Big Ten Punter of the Year and a preseason candidate for the Ray Guy Award. He was a five-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, a member of both the Brook Berringer and Tom Osborne Citizenship teams, and earlier this year was awarded a Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award, which recognizes exceptional leadership, consistent and dedicated community service and positive influence on the team.

The CLASS Award, which stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The CLASS candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on an official ballot with the winners announced in December.
