The 2023 Nebraska Plant Science Symposium Series – Growing the Future: Innovations in Plant Science – is set for Tuesday, April 25, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Graduate Lincoln Hotel.
The goal of the symposium series is to enhance agricultural scientific literacy, stimulate collaboration and help build interest in plant science careers.
NPSS 2023 committee members include graduate students Kyle Linders ¬– chair, Yuvraj Chopra – co-chair, Kristina Alas, Lexie Foster, Sydney Graham, Pragya Gupta, Hongyu Jin, Shohei Oguro, Andrea Rilakovic and Sanket Shinde.
NPSS is a part of a biennial series which began in 2012. In 2015, the Symposium became an annual event. It is affiliated with the Corteva Symposium Series, a global network of student-organized and driven scientific symposia, hosted by leading academic and research institutions and facilitated by Corteva Agrisciences.
The symposium will include presentations by leading agricultural and plant science researchers including:
- Joseph Gage, assistant professor of crop and soil sciences at North Carolina State University.
- Jinliang Yang, assistant professor of agronomy and horticulture at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln
- Katayoon (Katie) Dehesh, director of the Institute for Integrative Genome Biology and professor of molecular biochemistry at the University of California, Riverside.
Two workshops will be offered:
- Brandology 101: Social Media Platforms and Launching into Your Career with Jocelyn Bullock. This session will address the importance of social media and how you can use it to your advantage when preparing yourself for the job – including creating relevant social media content and clear science communication.
- Careers in Industry with Klaus Koehler, Global Talent Development Lead Seed Product Development, Corteva Agriscience.
The symposium will also include student speakers, lightning talks, poster sessions, roundtable discussions and networking opportunities.
David Hyten, Haskins Professor in Plant Genetics and associate professor of agronomy and horticulture, serves as faculty advisor.
