Francis to retire after 45 years at Nebraska Thursday, June 9, 2022

Charles “Chuck” Francis, University of Nebraska–Lincoln professor in agronomy and horticulture, will retire June 30 after a 45-year career at Nebraska.

A reception in his honor will take place June 17 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Goodding Learning Center. Cake will be served, and a program will begin at 3:30 p.m. Friends and colleagues can leave a note or photo memory in the online guestbook.

Scientists and graduate students from institutions around the Midwest and abroad can attend the free 2022 Nitrogen Use Efficiency Workshop Aug. 1–3 hosted by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Department of Agronomy and Horticulture and Department of Biological Systems Engineering.

The title of this year’s workshop is “Demystifying Water and Nitrogen Management with Dynamic Solutions.”

Viticulture field day is June 6 Tuesday, May 17, 2022
The University of Nebraska Viticulture Program and the Nebraska Winery and Grape Growers Association will host a field day June 6.

Distance Education Program supports creation of online learning resources Monday, May 2, 2022
Accessing technology everywhere, even in the field.

The Agronomy and Horticulture Distance Education team expanded this spring as they welcomed Luqi Li and McKinzie Sutter as Distance Education lecturers. The team is focused on supporting and expanding online education in the department.

Li is an online teacher, focused on developing online resources for both academic students and extension audiences in the plant and landscape systems workforce. Li provides support for online extension efforts.

Zaric places 2nd in weed science poster competition Friday, April 29, 2022
Milos Zaric

Milos Zaric, a doctoral student in agronomy, placed second in the Agronomic Crops Poster Presentations at the Western Society of Weed Science Annual Meeting March 7-10 in Newport Beach, California.

Zaric is specializing in weed science and is advised by Sam Wortman, associate professor of agronomy and horticulture.

The Horticulture Club will host a spring bedding plant sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 4 and 5, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 6 at the Teaching Greenhouse West on East Campus.
