27 students earn degrees in December Tuesday, December 14, 2021
Pinnacle Bank Arena will host a ceremony for students earning graduate and professional degrees at 3 p.m. Dec. 17 and one for those earning bachelor's degrees at 9 a.m. Dec. 18. Doors open to the public at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 17 and 7:30 a.m. Dec. 18.
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will confer more than 1,300 degrees during commencement exercises Dec. 17 and 18 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Among those will be 27 students from the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture.

Faculty and staff from the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln were honored at an awards luncheon on Dec. 1 at the Nebraska East Union. NU Vice President and Harlan Vice Chancellor for IANR Mike Boehm gave the welcome followed by lunch and the awards ceremony.

Four Department of Agronomy and Horticulture faculty and staff were among the winners in their category with a total of 10 department employees nominated.

Program immerses high schoolers in ag, natural resources Monday, December 13, 2021
Lincoln Northeast students in the LPS-CASNR Early College and Career STEM Program participate in an immersive event on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s East Campus in November.
Over the course of a few days in November, about 700 Lincoln Northeast High School students visited the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s East Campus, where their math and science classes took a hands-on turn.

Ellen Paparozzi, University of Nebraska–Lincoln professor in agronomy and horticulture, will retire Dec. 31 after a 40-year career at Nebraska. A reception in her honor will take place Dec. 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. in Keim Hall, Room 150.

Husker team gains momentum toward developing nitrogen-efficient crops Wednesday, December 1, 2021

As nitrogen fertilizer prices rise across the country, a research team that includes University of Nebraska–Lincoln scientists has gained new resources and partners as they work to decrease the amount of nitrogen that crops such as sorghum and corn require to reach their maximum yield potential.

Nebraska researchers debut new interactive wheat variety app Friday, November 19, 2021
The new Wheat Variety App makes reviewing variety testing data easier than ever before, with filters that enable app users to build, review and save a customized report.
After two years of product development and testing, a team of researchers at University of Nebraska-Lincoln is unveiling its new Wheat Variety App — a web-based application that contains the same results Nebraska growers have come to expect from UNL’s Crop Variety and Hybrid Testing Program research, but in a new customized format. With a few clicks, growers can now filter test results to find their perfect wheat variety options with ease.

Service Award Celebration honors 24 department employees for their service to Nebraska Friday, November 19, 2021
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln honored 977 faculty and staff for their years of service to the university Nov. 18 including Department of Agronomy and Horticulture’s Carol Caha, a lab manager and research technologist, for 45 years of service.
Twenty-four Department of Agronomy and Horticulture employees were honored during a Celebration of Service event on Nov. 18.

Orders open for annual poinsettia sale Friday, November 19, 2021

Online sales are open for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Horticulture Club’s annual poinsettia sale.

Advance orders for plants, which come in 4-, 6- and 25-inch sizes, will be taken through Nov. 26. Pickup for these orders will be Dec. 1, noon to 4 p.m. at the Teaching Greenhouse West, 1875 N. 38th St.

There will also be an in-person sale Dec. 2, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at both the Nebraska Union and Nebraska East Union.
