Sanford awarded Arthur William Sampson Fellowship Wednesday, June 14, 2017
Amanda Sanford, an agronomy graduate student, has been awarded the Arthur William Sampson Fellowship in Pasture Management. This fellowship is awarded annually to a University of Nebraska–Lincoln graduate student conducting research in range or pasture ecology and management. Awarded from the Center for Grassland Studies, this fellowship includes a 12-month graduate stipend and begins Aug. 1, 2017.

Busse receives Board of Regents Kudos Award Friday, June 9, 2017
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents presented Marlene Busse, administrative support associate for Student Services in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, with a Kudos Award June 1. Each year the Board of Regents recognizes full-time employees from each of the four campuses for their outstanding service to the university.

Compare Varieties at Winter Wheat Field Days this June Tuesday, May 23, 2017
Nebraska Winter Wheat Field Days will be held at eight sites in the Panhandle and west central and southeast Nebraska this June. Participants will be able to view current commercial and experimental lines, including varieties from the University of Nebraska, and Kansas, Colorado, and South Dakota, and from seed companies actively selling wheat seed in Nebraska. Most of the varieties shown have been released for commercial production or soon will be; some experimental lines from Nebraska breeding programs (USDA-ARS or UNL) are also included.

Master of Science in agronomy students grow their stories, program online Friday, May 19, 2017
People would expect things to grow in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture. While not always dealing with plant matter, the department’s online Master of Science program is growing in size, scope and stories. With more than 50 online Master of Science students, 10 have graduated since last August. Their projects and stories have been as unique as their personalities, interests and geographic locations.

New research quantifies the dispersal of Glyphosate resistance trait through pollen-mediated gene flow Thursday, May 18, 2017
New multidisciplinary research from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln quantifies the dispersal of the Glyphosate resistance trait through pollen-mediated gene flow in the most problematic weed in Nebraska. The research was highlighted in a paper recently published in Nature Scientific Reports.

Soil Judging Team meets tough competition at nationals Tuesday, May 16, 2017
Four days of practice, two days of competition, 24 teams and 93 competitors. Competition for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Soil Judging Team was fierce at the 2017 National Collegiate contest in late April in DeKalb, Illinois. The Nebraska team, comprised of 11 students from the School of Natural Resources and the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, placed 17th of 24 in both the group contest and overall.

Celebration to mark Maxwell Arboretum's 50th year Wednesday, May 10, 2017
A lecture and tree planting are part of events set for May 16 celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Earl G. Maxwell Arboretum on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's East Campus. George Briggs, director of the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, will share “Lessons from a Prairie Arboretum” in a free talk at 2:30 p.m. in the Nebraska East Union. A former faculty member at Nebraska, Briggs was director of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum.
