Cahoon, Clemente, Hebets named AAAS fellows Monday, December 2, 2019
Three University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty, including Tom Elmo Clemente, have been selected as fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest general scientific society. Fellows are selected by their peers for scientifically or socially distinguished achievements that advance science or its application.

Eight alumni receive Lifetime Achievement Award Tuesday, November 26, 2019

Eight University of Nebraska–Lincoln alumni received the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 Emeriti Banquet November 21. The banquet was hosted by the department’s undergraduate Agronomy Club and Horticulture Club members. Award recipients include George W. Beadle, William Wesley Burr, Steve A. Eberhart, Kimberly Erusha, Franklin D. Keim, A. Bruce Maunder, Monica Norby and Robert A. Olson.

Mamo receives CASNR Fellow Award Tuesday, November 19, 2019

Martha Mamo, University of Nebraska–Lincoln Weaver Professor of Agronomy and Horticulture and department head, received the 2019 Fellow of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Award at the Eleventh Annual CASNR Honors Banquet Oct. 31. The award recognizes a CASNR faculty member who has provided exemplary contributions to undergraduate education through courses offered in the CASNR Honors program, experiential learning and mentoring undergraduate research.

Heuermann Lecture to feature panelists on Nebraska’s healthy ecosystem Thursday, November 14, 2019
Strategies for meeting the global demand for food, fuel, feed and fiber while preserving Nebraska’s healthy agricultural ecosystems will be the topic of a panel discussion during the first Heuermann Lecture of the season on Nov. 25. Panelists will include Andrea Basche, assistant professor in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture.

Nebraska Extension is offering Master Gardener training throughout the state beginning in January 2020. The Nebraska EMG program is a horticulture-related volunteer training program based in many counties and has been part of Nebraska Extension since 1976.

Kirsch makes rain to study landscape runoff Monday, November 4, 2019

Brittany Kirsch, agronomy and horticulture master’s student specializing in soil and water sciences, made it rain last summer. Awarded a National Science Foundation National Research Traineeship in 2018, Kirsch is working with University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty in understanding resilience of agricultural ecosystems, particularly the Platte River Basin in Nebraska.

Schnable appointed to endowed professorship Thursday, October 31, 2019

James Schnable was recently appointed to the Charles O. Gardner Professor of Agronomy endowed professorship. The professorship honors Gardner and his contributions in the field of quantitative genetics and plant breeding of maize.
