Worldwide Collaboration to Breed Better Dry Beans Wednesday, October 17, 2018
On a recent warm, late-summer day, as many dry edible bean growers in Nebraska were watching their fields turn color and preparing for harvest, four scientists paced through a bean field north of Scottsbluff. This field, part of the research acreage at the University of Nebraska’s Panhandle Research and Extension Center, consists of hundreds of tiny plots, each one a different line or type of dry bean representing varieties from all over the world.

Titled “Science Literacy: Using Research-Based Facts To Make Real-World Decisions,” the publication highlights University of Nebraska–Lincoln scientists who use the best-available, data-driven technologies in their research.

Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture taps Ferguson for leadership position Thursday, September 27, 2018

Richard Ferguson has been named vice chancellor for the Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA), effective Jan. 1, 2019. Opening in July 2019, the RICA is an English language institution dedicated to educating and inspiring a new generation of innovators in agriculture in Rwanda. Establishing the Institute is a joint effort of the Government of Rwanda and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln providing leadership in curriculum development and technical advising.

Soil Judging Team brings home gold Tuesday, September 25, 2018
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Soil Judging Team dug right into the Region 5 Soil Judging Competition from Sept. 17 to 21 in Manhattan, Kansas, walking out covered in grit and quite a bit of glory, having beaten seven other teams for a first-place overall win, three individual awards and a third-place team finish.
