Wortmann receives ASA International Agronomy Award Friday, November 16, 2018
Charles Wortmann, University of Nebraska–Lincoln agronomy and horticulture professor and Nebraska Extension soil and nutrient management specialist, received the American Society of Agronomy International Agronomy Award Nov. 5 at the ASA and Crop Science Society of America meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. This award recognizes outstanding contributions in research, teaching, extension or administration made outside of the United States by a current agronomist.

Six graduate students earn fellowships and awards Tuesday, October 30, 2018
Six Department of Agronomy and Horticulture doctoral students were honored with fellowships and awards by the Agricultural Research Division and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at the Distinguished Fellowships and Awards Luncheon on Oct. 18. Those honored include Nicholas Garst, Jaspreet Sandhu, Adam Striegel, Alexandre Tonon Rosa, Madhav Bhatta and Raquel Rocha.

Panday wins Maize-Asia Youth Innovator Award Monday, October 22, 2018
Dinesh Panday, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln agronomy graduate student working and studying at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center, is one of the winners of the 2018 Maize-Asia Youth Innovators Awards. He was presented with the award at the 13th Asian Maize Conference Oct. 8-10 in Ludhiana, India, and was invited to present his work in maize research for development at the closing plenary session.

Worldwide Collaboration to Breed Better Dry Beans Wednesday, October 17, 2018
On a recent warm, late-summer day, as many dry edible bean growers in Nebraska were watching their fields turn color and preparing for harvest, four scientists paced through a bean field north of Scottsbluff. This field, part of the research acreage at the University of Nebraska’s Panhandle Research and Extension Center, consists of hundreds of tiny plots, each one a different line or type of dry bean representing varieties from all over the world.

Titled “Science Literacy: Using Research-Based Facts To Make Real-World Decisions,” the publication highlights University of Nebraska–Lincoln scientists who use the best-available, data-driven technologies in their research.
